Update Java
The FreshPortal client needs Java to function. If the client starts but the icon in the system tray (a FreshPortal logo) stays gray or red, Java might need to be updated.
The Windows system tray is part of the task bar and contains the icons that let you control sound volume, your network connection, and the clock. When you have more icons than there is space for in the system tray some of them might be hidden. You can show these hidden icons by clicking the little arrow pointing upwards.
.
Check if a Java update is available
If Java has been installed on the computer and an update for it is available, an orange Java icon will be present in the Windows system tray. By clicking this icon with the right mouse button Java can be prompted to download and install the update.
The Java icon in the system tray looks like this:
Solving Java issues
If there are other issues with Java (for example ones that persist after an update) and thus limit the functioning of the FreshPortal client, the support page for Java might offer help. This page can be found here hier:

Antivirus software
The FreshPortal client "listens" to the server your FreshPortal system is running on for print commands. It also reports succesfull prints back to the server so that your FreshPortal system can display a correct print status in its tables. This communication might trigger antivirus software, causing it to quarantine or remove the FreshPortal client. If your antivirus software shows you alerts about the FreshPortal client, please add exceptions for the client and the folders it is running from. If you have an IT repsonsible, they can help you with this.

If you are using a Remote Desktop environment (RDS) to get to your FreshPortal system, contact the people managing your RDS environment as antivirus and Java are most likely centrally managed in that case.
Locations for antivirus exceptions
The installer file "fps_broker_installer.exe" is usually located in the downloads folder. An exception for this file is needed in order to install the client.
After its installation, the client runs from the FreshPortal folder in "Application Data." The path to this folder depends on the logged in user. This folder contains "fps_broker.exe" that also needs an exception to run properly.
Using the search bar in your Start menu (or with newer versions of Windows next to your Start menu) you can search for the application data folder by typing %appdata% (including the percentage marks).
You can copy the path to the folder by clicking the addressbar in your Windows explorer window while you have the folder open. By selecting the path, you can copy it using Ctrl+C and subsequently paste it into your antivirus software using Ctrl+V.
